Since the Oscars are this Sunday we want to give you a little eye candy via Bella Baker. Don’t they look delish?!? We also wanted to share our friends over at Bride Vs Groom’s Oscar’s Themed Wedding Inspiration Board.
It is complete with a directors clapper cake and everything!
Welcome to Part 1 of the top 10 things brides almost always forget and really need to remember when planning for their Big Day. If you are like the majority of the brides we have been so honored to plan for, you will have the same “aha!” moments as they did when we remind them of these items.
1. What about your overnight bag?
If you are not staying at a hotel the night before your Big Day you probably won’t think about your overnight bag until you are heading over to your bridal suite. Then what do you do with your bag? Be sure to designate someone to take you and the groom’s bags to the hotel for you so you don’t have to lug it around in you gorgeous dress.
2. Picking someone to take things home after the reception.
After the reception there are many items that are left behind that you will want to have as keepsakes. Your cake topper, cake cutter, unity candle, toasting flutes, gifts, leftover food and booze, leftover favors, and more. Choose a sober person and let them know what you would like them to collect and where and when to drop it all off. Don’t forget if you are changing dresses during your reception, someone will need to be responsible for taking this home for you.
3. Making plans for after the reception.
Depending on what time your venue closes and what type of crowd you are hosting at the reception, you may want to keep the party going after hours. Keep this in mind and have a plan for where you, your wedding party, and out-of-town guests are staying so you are near by some late night entertainment.
4. Plan a place for everything.
When we say a wedding is all about the details – it’s all about the details. Have a place in mind for all of your paper items and materials like programs, escort and place cards, and menus. If you don’t have a coordinator or planner you are going to need to delegate this responsibility to someone. You are not going to be able to set these items out when the day comes.
5. Special touches.
It is always a good idea to dress up spots around the venue that may be left bare such as the bar area, bathrooms, hallway areas, and depending on your venue there may be different areas left untouched by design and décor. A monogrammed tray in the bathrooms holding toiletries is a nice touch and a nice way to show off your new initials. You can add your touch to the bar and other areas by simply placing one of your engagement photos, a quote, or whatever means the most to you for your guests to enjoy.
Stay tuned for part two of the list coming up next week. Until then, what items have you overlooked throughout your own wedding planning? Leave a comment below and share with our community.

Laurie Fulton and Lisa Fulton, Owners of Events by L, are sisters and business partners. This planning duo presents a fabulous team effort on every occasion. We caught up with them a while ago to chat about their philosophies on wedding planning and a few tips for how newly engaged couples can start the planning process!
CSW: So, you two are sisters! How did you end up going into business together?
L&L: We have always loved throwing parties and have experience in everything from corporate events to helping plan weddings for our friends. We were encouraged by our friends and family to start a business to be able to provide guidance to those in need of professional event planning. We are truly lucky to be able to do what we love!
CSW: What is your philosophy when it comes to wedding planning?
L&L: Our philosophy is simple – We are professional, but not stuffy. Our clients have expressed their surprise at how easy going we are. We are not the stereotypical ‘stuffy, rigid event planners’. We love what we do and it shows in our interactions with our clients and vendors.…..read more…
Have you attended one of those bridal shows that includes a sea of anxious, hungry, and annoyed attendants? Perhaps you were endlessly bumped into over and over again impatient people fighting their way through the crowd while trying to get a look at one of the hundreds of vendor booths crammed together in a space that wouldn’t be sufficient for even half of the amount of people packed in the room. We have great news for you!THIS IS NOT THAT TYPE OF SHOW!
We take pride in involving ourselves ONLY with bridal shows that will allow us to get to know brides, and see how we can help them and educate them while they are transitioning through the wedding planning process.
